JOB DESCRIPTION

Wood is currently seeking an Architectural Department Manager to join our Life Sciences (Biotechnology / Pharmaceuticals) team to develop life-changing and in many cases, life-saving solutions for our clients.

On a global scale, Wood serves the Life Sciences, Chemicals, Minerals, Metals, traditional and renewable energy Industries. Our North American offices have become the Center of Excellence for our global Life Sciences network, providing full-service pharmaceutical and biotechnology engineering, design, procurement, project management, and construction management services.

We are seeking an Architectural Department Manager who can lead and grow our Life Science architectural team for our North America operations. The right candidate will lead and build a department of talented architects and architectural designers. Project sizes will vary and will include both existing building improvements and new greenfield construction. The Architectural Department Manager will report directly to the Vice President of Engineering.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Job Objectives

  • Build and develop a robust architectural department staff
  • Support the sales team with proposals, budgets, estimates and client presentations
  • Oversees development of architectural department standards with architectural technical lead
  • Oversees quality control of architectural deliverables with architectural technical lead
  • Coordinates with other Life Science department managers.
  • Coordinates and collaborates on architectural deliverables with other Wood Life Science offices, both nationally and internationally
  • Mentors and supports the architectural department staff
  • May serve as the Architect of Record on key projects
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the architectural department staff and delegates work assignments.
  • Leads, guides, and directs the architectural team through all phases of design: initial programming, planning, feasibility & concept development, preliminary design, detailed design, and construction documentation.
  • Oversight and responsibility for architectural reports; Feasibility, Concept, Basis of Design, etc.
  • Responsible for maintaining architectural department budgets, schedules, and project deliverables.
  • Helps to establish a culture of technical excellence through role modelling and communicating expectations.
  • Establish effective working relations with colleagues, clients. and jurisdictional officials.


QUALIFICATIONS

Skills / Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Architecture (5-year program) or Master of Architecture (M.Arch.) from an accredited NAAB university
  • Architectural licensure and NCARB certification is required
  • Ability to acquire a CA license is a plus
  • More than 10 years of applicable experience
  • Life Sciences architectural design experience and knowledge of cGMPs are required
  • Knowledge of current building codes and standards
  • Working knowledge of the following software packages (AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, Microsoft office & Sketchup)
  • This position can be based out of either the Philadelphia, PA or Morrisville, NC office. Our Hybrid model has employees in the office 3 days a week with remote work 2 days a week.
  • Flexibility to travel (~15%) is required.
