Minimum Qualifications for Apprenticeship Program:

  • Apprentices must be at least 18 years of age. .
  • High school graduate or equivalent. A diploma or GED Certificate is required.
  • Applicants must be physically qualified to work at the trade.


  • Other Qualifications:

    Able to satisfy the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee that applicant has the ability and aptitude to master the skills of the trade and have sufficient education to satisfactorily complete the required hours of "related instruction." Approved courses are taken outside normal working hours.

    Conditions:
  • Term of apprenticeship is four (4) years.
  • "Related Instruction" requirement is minimum of 144 hours each of 4 years to include courses such as basic math, blueprint reading, welding, algebra, etc.
  • Ardagh Group will reimburse the Apprentice for required course books and supplies. Applicants must purchase and maintain the tools of the trade.
  • Satisfactorily complete initial probationary period (1 year)
    • Abide by all working rules of the Company and the State-approved Apprenticeship-Training Program.
    • Regularly attend classroom instruction and complete required job instruction
    • Maintain required daily records of work experience, job training and classroom instruction6. Must have satisfactory attendance and safety records.

    The Typical Duties Of This Job Are As Follows:
  • Planning, joining, pinning, venting, letter cutting, filing, scraping in the construction of new cast figured molds, turning and chipping of molds and keeping the same in repair, master forms for molds, blanks, and bottom plates, making neck rings, baffle plates and funnels.
  • Doweling, stenciling, CNC programming, set up and operations, the making of repair of plungers, thimbles, blow heads, valves, glazier cups, grab and takeout jaws, cooling tubes, mold patterns, templates, adapters, cages, gauges, guide rings, master forms for duplicating and tracing, cutting and forming tools, grinding and maintenance of tools, mold inspection, assembly of mold equipment, spraying or welding of colmonoy or any other metal alloy on mold equipment.
  • Regularly required to lift 60 or more pounds.
  • Expected to complete/pass at least 144 hours of Class Room training annually.
  • Apprenticeship training is a 4 Calendar year program.
  • Shift assignment, at the end of the apprenticeship program, will be based on local 138-2 seniority.
  • Employees cannot be a member of two Unions; Apprentices will be a member of local 138-2 on day 31, provided the probationary period has been fulfilled.
  • Vacation allotment will be based on Sign up; Dept Seniority; and Schedule.

  • Complete work processes and related instruction as detailed in the Standards of Apprenticeship for "Mold Makers" as approved by the US Department of Labor.
