The Applications Engineer-Estimation ("Engineer") will develop and enhance Materion Performance Solutions Product penetration in the marketplace utilizing a thorough knowledge of how advanced materials influence specific designs through pricing efforts. The Engineer has a primary responsibility for engineering activities relating to the material selection, material processing, machining, fabrication, analytical design, risk mitigation, cost estimates, proposal writing, and scheduling updates for new applications and products. The Engineer will perform cost versus design trade studies for both internal and external customers. The Engineer is expected to take independent action in completion of assigned projects to ensure optimum progress in the achievement of project and / or group goals.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Develop design engineering objectives and required development plans for programs from marketing and business strategies developed by the Products management team.
  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of Materion's Performance Solutions Materials Portfolio and how specific material properties effect the end user's analytical designs.
  • Prepare analytical designs and cost estimates incorporating products and capabilities from within the fabrication base and internal capabilities to facilitate future growth of proposed products or projects.
  • Continuously update the estimate programs to maintain current costing methodology and maintain configuration control of approved programs.
  • Maintain adequate records of all activities and consolidate all records at completion to ensure documentation of results is available for future orders and compliance.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams, including but not limited to Technology and Innovation, Manufacturing, Quality, Sales, and Accounting to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Acts as a liaison with external customers to understand requirements to communicate with internal stakeholders.
  • Prepares proposals and technical presentations in support of customer inquiries or quotations.
  • Perform analysis of closed orders to ensure cost and pricing was appropriate to support the overall financial goals of the organization.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering required (preferably in Mechanical, Metallurgical, or Aerospace); Master's Degree a plus
  • Minimum five years' experience in manufacturing cost estimation or five years' skilled precision machining experience:
  • Knowledge of cost estimating for materials
  • Knowledge of machining and fabrication
  • Ability to interface with customers and sub-tier suppliers
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and CAD models with geometric tolerancing
  • Ability to read and interpret material and processing specification
  • Ability to think analytically while maintaining a creative edge
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint)
  • Able to perform presentations to internal and external customers
  • Ability to utilize 3D computer aided design tools and associated software (SolidWorks experience preferred; Data Management Systems)
  • Understanding of quality systems such as ISO and AS
  • Domestic travel up to 20% per year.
The selection of the person to be hired for this position is contingent on the candidate having export compliance eligibility for access to U.S. controlled technology which comes under the licensing jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of State, International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the U.S. Department of Commerce, Export Administration Regulations (EAR).

The candidate selected will have to qualify as either a U.S. citizen, a U.S. National, a lawful permanent resident of the U.S., a Person Admitted into the U.S. as an Asylee or Refugee., a National of a country that is not prohibited from having access to U.S. controlled technology (via a letter of assurance), or a Person to be approved for an export license by the governing agency whose technology comes under its jurisdiction.
