About this Opportunity:

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.

This position reports to the General Office but qualified candidates can work from within the FirstEnergy Operational Footprint.

The Field Mobility Systems Advanced Technical Specialist will provide technical support at all levels to the Field Mobility Systems team regarding application integration and stability across the suite of Field Execution systems that support FE Operations. They will support Regional Operations by establishing and maintaining consistent processes, supported by technology, in the areas of Field Execution and Field Hardware.

Major accountabilities are to:

  • Work with the IT Distribution Systems team on the identification and troubleshooting of system issues, development of functional and technical specifications for issue resolutions and product enhancements, developing and executing test plans to ensure system stability, developing communications and training materials and assist with training end users.
  • Analyzing business processes and developing technical solutions for improvement while supporting ongoing systems and processes improvements for all FirstEnergy operating companies.

The ideal candidate has an in-depth understanding of regional operations and a technical mindset. They are committed to customer service and has an attention to detail. They have successfully demonstrated project and change leadership skills.

Duties include Level 1 field support, troubleshooting, data analysis, requirement definition, evaluation, testing, implementation, and change leadership. The job provides the opportunity for frequent interaction with IT partners, internal business clients and Operating Company workgroups, which necessitates strong communication skills.

The need to travel across our service territory is a large part of this position and will be required.

Responsibilities include:
  • Working on multiple projects and ad-hoc management requests at one time. Assessing business practices for improvement opportunities; being a champion of change and innovation that drives improvement. Helps to develop technical solutions to business problems.
  • Supporting FE Operations during emergencies and storm-related activities and travel to various FirstEnergy locations
  • Serving as a Product Owner of Field Mobility Systems, which includes:
    • Ensuring user stories are well documented and ready for development
    • Gathering, managing and prioritizing Product backlog
    • Collaborating with IT development team
    • Having technical product knowledge, or specific operations expertise
    • Clearly articulating customers needs and the associated features to meet those needs
    • Serving as an advocate of regional operations to the IT development team
    • Prioritizing user story and bug resolution
  • Maintaining a safe workplace for coworkers and the community based upon knowledge of potential hazards and industry regulations/requirements
  • Providing sound customer service by exceeding customer needs
    • This includes being Level 1 troubleshooting of problems reported by physical workforce.
  • Contributing to solutions by taking an initiative to develop alternatives and recommendations
  • Offering ideas and suggestions to improve moderately complex work processes and/or projects
  • Actively seeking ways to build, challenge and add value within scope of assignments

Qualifications:
  • Four-year degree in a related discipline is preferred, with a minimum 7 years' professional work experience. In lieu of a degree, 10 years of direct, related experience will be considered. The experience must be related which includes work in regional operations, IT development or IT support or another technical group supporting applications or regional operations.
  • Understanding of FirstEnergy Operations and their goals
  • Has operational background or has a desire to learn operations (will involve travel to various FirstEnergy locations)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, Visio, PowerPoint and Word,
  • Knowledge of the Field Mobility suite of applications (i.e. Syclo, Relay Testing Systems (RTS), Cascade, Toughpics, Powerbase, OMA, ED Health Check, etc.), is a plus
  • Must be self-motivated and demonstrate a questioning attitude to continue to learn, produce results, and strengthen existing relationships
  • Conduct research & analyze data as directed
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Model active learning through continuing to develop breadth of knowledge, skills, and perspective
  • Deliver quality, accurate work within established deadlines
  • Documented written and oral communication skills
  • Mature interpersonal skills to work with all employees and customers
  • Demonstrated analytical skills
  • Position requires travel throughout the FirstEnergy footprint
  • Ability to create and present formal and informal presentations at all levels of the organization
  • Experience in identifying change leadership requirements and driving change leadership across an organization
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting ability including analytical skills to resolve business problems
  • Experience in providing responsive and effective customer service
  • Ability to review and analyze user requirements to develop detailed functional specifications.
  • Proven team player who contributes to team goals and encourages/supports other team members
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize and plan work, work on multiple concurrent tasks and meet deadlines
  • Project management experience is preferred
  • Willingness and propensity for continual growth, willingness to undertake assignments involving unfamiliar subjects.
  • Ability to adapt and change quickly
  • Highly motivated; experience working independently with a high level of productivity
  • Ability to work across all FE Operating Companies and develop consistent solutions for all stakeholder groups
  • Experience in process/project development, planning/analysis, and performance reporting
