The Department of Family Medicine area of Geriatrics is developing a Care team to provide excellent continuous care to Briarwood Healthcare, Simpson Home, Wilton Retirement community, Pleasantview Home and Pioneer Park nursing homes. The person who accepts this position would be a member of a team providing care independently at these facilities while collaborating with the team to optimize care and processes in addition to being a liaison to UIHC for these facilities.

Limited Time Incentive Available: selected candidates eligible for a one time sign-on incentive of $10,000

Duties to include:

  • Assure clinical competency and expertise in area of specialization
  • Function independently and/or as a member of an interdisciplinary team to plan, deliver and evaluate health care for a defined patient population.
  • Determine care requirements and develop programs for a specific patient population, with regard to patient condition and age, and follow universal precautions.
  • Collaborate with nursing staff/nursing administration to monitor and evaluate the quality of patient care.
  • Promote health maintenance that spans the continuum of health from outpatient to inpatient settings and back to the home care arena.
  • Participate in the development, utilization, and evaluation of resources to meet patient/family educational needs.
  • Document patient assessment and plan of care in the medical record and generate appropriate health reports for outgoing correspondence.
  • Initiate and coordinate referrals to other health care team members or agencies.
  • Provide anticipatory guidance and counseling to patients/families.
  • Responsible for administrative activities and special projects as assigned.
  • Contribute toward the achievement of divisional and departmental goals.
  • Participate and contribute to activities that enhance clinical expertise and professional knowledge.
  • Participate in professional activities in the department, hospital, community, and professional organizations.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the public.

Location: Iowa City, IA (surrounding locations including West Liberty, Wilton, Kalona, Lone Tree)

Pay Grade: 93 (SEIU) https://hr.uiowa.edu/pay/guide-pay-plans

Education
  • A Master's degree is required. A Master's degree in Nursing is preferred. If Master's degree is in a related field, a Baccalaureate degree in nursing is required.

Required Qualifications:
  • Current certification in specialty area and licensure as ARNP in state of Iowa is required.
  • Driver's license and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards
  • Previous experience in a primary care environment providing care to adults and geriatric patients
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

Desirable Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 1-year clinical experience after completion of ARNP (Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner) training is highly desirable.
  • 2+ years' experience in a primary care setting and/or experience in geriatrics care is preferred.
  • Prefer Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (AGNP) Certification
  • Wound care experience is highly desirable
  • Demonstrated proficiency with EPIC is highly desirable.
