The George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates, an independent non-profit academic clinical practice group affiliated with The George Washington University, seeks a Physician Assistant or NP to support our Neurosurgery team.

Our Neurosurgery provides state-of-the-art medical treatment and management of neurological disorders, including brain and spinal tumors, degenerative spinal conditions, epilepsy, movement disorders, cerebrovascular disorders such as stroke and aneurysm, and pain.

Procedures include minimally invasive surgical techniques for the brain and spine, deep brain stimulation for the treatment of both movement (e.g. Parkinson's) and mood disorders, awake craniotomy techniques for mapping brain function, radiosurgery (stereotactic approaches and whole brain), carotid artery stenting, and minimally invasive treatment of brain aneurysm (coiling).

Position Summary

To perform, under the responsibility and supervision of physicians, clinical patient care service defined as data gathering, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, management of stable and chronic illnesses; and counseling. The Physician Assistant will be credentialed according to the medical staff regulations. They will be under the supervision of an appropriately credentialed attending physician.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Performs evaluation and problem identification of patients.
  • Performs history and physical examination of patients.
  • Writes prescriptions, orders, and interprets laboratory data and radiological tests.
  • Monitors patient status and response to treatments.
  • Documents findings in the medical record.
  • Recommends appropriate therapeutic interventions.
  • Interacts with consultants as appropriate.
  • Provides education and counseling for patients. Directs patient and/or family to agencies dealing with specific illnesses/diseases.
  • Orders appropriate therapeutic interventions.
  • Supervises NP, PA, health science, and medical students as appropriate.
Qualifications

Education
  • A Master's degree as a physician assistant and completion of an approved course of study as a physician assistant.
Licensure
  • Current NCCPA certification and D.C. licensure as a Physician Assistant are necessary.
Experience
  • Previous experience is strongly preferred. Seeking advanced practitioners with some procedural expierence to include wound care and more.
