Job Summary: 

The Admissions Counselor will Assist the Director of Undergraduate Admissions & Recruitment through all phases of the admissions process.  The Admissions Counselor will work to promote the university, assist students in the college admissions decision-making process.  This position will also represent the university at recruiting events and maintain a healthy and robust alumni network.  This position will require working outside of the normal business hours, during evenings and weekends, frequently.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Recruit students by developing alumni networks, visiting high schools and college admission events, and initiating campaigns that produce inquiries and enrollment to the university.
  • Meet with prospective students and answer questions about the university, areas of study, and opportunities for students.
  • Execute various communication methods to prospective students to engage them in the recruitment and admissions process to generate interest and/or an application.
  • Maintains accurate documentation of students’ progress toward their goals and next steps in the college admission process.
  • Collaborate with parents/guardians to assist students with educational and career planning.
  • Collaborate with the Admissions Recruiting Coordinator on campus recruiting events.
  • Improve quality by evaluating, updating, and consistently reviewing processes.
  • Travel to high schools, technical schools, and community or junior colleges to promote the university.
  • Give tours of the campus when the tour guides are not available.
  • Participate in the development of and provide feedback on prospective student recruitment materials.
  • Utilize CRM to track outreach.  Ensure completed prospect information is accurately entered in a timely manner.
  • Generate, process, and maintain reports and develop and maintain tracking systems to review prospect information and provide outreach.
  • Assist accepted students interpret and understand their financial aid award documentation.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively and professionally with all constituencies of a diverse community.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative.
  • The ability to build relationships that balance the multiple, varying, and sometimes conflicting interests of diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to effectively express ideas clearly in both written and verbal communications.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, specifically Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze information for effective decision making.
  • Attention to detail to prepare reports, correspondence, administer tests, and coordinate information.
  • Excellent problem-solving and conflict resolution skills, and the ability to deal effectively with a variety of situations and constituents.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information and materials.
  • Ability and willingness to frequently work evenings and weekends.

 

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in related field, up to 3 years of experience in college recruitment.  Experience in a higher education environment is preferred.

 

Physical Requirements: 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.   The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb or balance.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.   Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.  The employee must occasionally travel to meetings and conferences off campus, which may include some overnight travel.
