Position Summary

The University Controller is responsible for the maintenance of the University's budgetary, receipt, and disbursement (expenditure) general and subsidiary ledgers for all general and self-supporting funds. The University Controller oversees and coordinates the analysis, reconciliation, and reporting of all financial transactions of the University. Additional oversight includes expenditure transactions processed within Accounts Payable; cash receipts, student reconciliations and records, financial aid disbursement transactions and collection activity are all managed by Student Account Services.

This position is in the Financial Systems Management and Analysis department. The primary purpose of this department is to provide both finance system technical and functional support roles in the Controller's area, primarily with the systems and functions in Student Account Services, the SDSUcard office and other Controller's areas. These systems interface with many campus and 3rd party applications, are used by over 150 users, and serve faculty, staff, students and parents.

The primary purpose of this position is to directly assist the Manager of Financial Systems with various matters related to maintaining and addressing complex issues within our finance systems and our books and records. The incumbent is expected to perform the full range of system setup and maintenance work and to support our campus financial and student systems and its users from a functional perspective requiring a high degree level of judgment, accountability, and autonomy. The incumbent must have the ability to work independently, analyze and evaluate complex accounting system problems, and provide recommendations regarding system activities. Oversee the day-to-day operations of various required processes involving student accounts and campus-wide financial systems.

The Manager of Financial Systems provides the incumbent with definitive work tasks and objectives. The methods for accomplishing such tasks and objectives are frequently left to the judgment of the incumbent with decisions being made in conjunction with the Manager, Financial Systems.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

This position is approved for partial telecommuting with onsite work in San Diego.

Education and Experience

Entry to this classification requires general knowledge and skills in the applicable administrative and/or program field with a foundational knowledge of public administration principles, practices, and methods. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.

Preferred Qualifications

Working knowledge of financial systems and accounting principles in the higher education and/or public sector industries, is preferred.

Specialized Skills

Experience with Financial reporting using large ERP systems such as PeopleSoft Campus Solutions and Oracle E-Business Suite.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $6,200 per month.

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,022 -$9,083 per month.
