Job Description:

The Department of Psychology at Binghamton University is actively seeking an exceptional candidate to join our dynamic advising team, which plays a pivotal role in fostering student success towards graduation in Psychology and Integrative Neuroscience. Our enthusiastic team of professionals collaborates with both students and faculty to provide timely and accurate academic information. Advisors guide students in one-on-one and group settings, participating in orientation sessions and various events throughout the year. Assisted by dedicated student peer advisors, our team emphasizes the importance of diverse and inclusive communities, recognizing the impact on our potential, innovation, and overall success. We are committed to creating structures and opportunities that enhance the experience for all students, particularly those underrepresented in science. Faculty, staff, and students actively contribute to cultivating a community that is conscious of social barriers, exhibits empathy and compassion, and advocates for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). We invite applicants who share these values, especially underrepresented minorities, women, and persons with disabilities, to apply and join us in shaping a more just and inclusive future.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring full-time advising is provided to students via walk-in hours, email, and phone.
  • Maintaining high-quality individual academic advising and facilitating the growth of Graduate Student Interns and Peer Advisors, which includes the management of campus systems like SAS, Banner and DegreeWorks, as well as organizing orientations and events for majors.
  • Assisting the Undergraduate Directors in Psychology and Integrative Neuroscience in ensuring the superlative functioning of the undergraduate majors, which involves continuing ongoing initiatives, maintaining and improving advising resources, and collating information relevant to enrollment and course offerings.
  • Maintaining contacts with campus offices to support the strategic missions of the Psychology Department and the Integrative Neuroscience Programs, Harpur College, and Binghamton University, working collegially with all constituents, who include Harpur Academic Advisors, societies and organizations affiliated with the undergraduate programs (e.g., Psi Chi), the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, the Fleishman Center for Career and Professional Development Internship Coordinator, and Freshman Research Immersion (FRI) program.

The Psychology Department is committed to building a diverse and inclusive environment in teaching, research, and work.
