The University of Miami/UHealth has an exciting opportunity for a Manager, Nursing - OR. The Manager, Nursing is responsible for the management of the daily operation of patient care, compliance with nursing standards of practice, patient satisfaction, and clinical performance improvement. Responsible for patient flow throughout designated clinical areas. Identifies patient flow barriers both i nternal and external to the cl inical operation, and provides and/or i mplements improvement solutions . Responsible for assuring patient care is delivered in alignment with hospital mission, vision, and nursing department goals and objectives. Responsible for insuring unit(s) is adequately staffed and personnel are appropriately trained for their given assignments i n order to provide safe, quality care. Responsible for assuring staff compliance with mandatory education, licensure requirements, continuing education, and applicable certifications and professional practice standards. Responsible for the utilization and maintenance of appropriate nursing care plans and assessment standards. Responsible for assur i ng unit(s) is prepared for Jo i nt Comm i ssion surveys and i nspections from regulatory agencies. Responsible for the collection of data (chart audits) to ensure performance improvement and optimal customer service standards. Provides timely reports as requested. The Perioperative Nurse Manager will be responsible for the daily clinical operations of the assigned nursing unit(s). Assures coordination of patient care through evidence based standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies. Assures compliance with all clinical safety standards. Promotes professional practice models that encourage staff collaboration, teamwork, shared governance ,committee participation, and organizational involvement. Utilizes data to facilitate excellent customer satisfaction. Manages unit(s) according to approved yearly budget and utilizes data to justify any appropriate variances. Enforces professional staff behaviors that facilitate positive relationships among colleagues, physicians, administration, and other hospital personnel.
Coordinates with superiors and Human Resource department the management of personnel to include recruitmen t , retention, employee incentive and evaluation, and disciplinary actions. Provides insight on unit operations to nurs i ng l eadersh i p to assist i n the development of strategic planning and departmental expansion. Assists with the development/revi sion and review of clinical pol icies and procedures. Assists with annual staff performance appraisals. Ensures staff adheres to UHEALTH Standards of Behavior. Rounds with staff for service recovery, as well as identify educational opportunities. Ensure staff adheres to UHEALTH Standards of Behavior, AIDET and Telephone Etiquette . Responsible over overall staff compliance with Pillar Goals. Perform annual staff Performance Appraisals .
Patient and Patient Family Education:
Assures nursing staff assess patient and family educational needs. Assures staff receives adequate education regarding a variety of disease processes, therapies, and new protocols. Assures nursi ng staff is knowledgeable in arranging consults with other departments as appropriate to address patient changing needs and/or medical status. Assists the staff to ut i l ize and/or adapt teach i ng protocols to set goals for the i ndividual patient/family teaching plan . Rounds on patients/family/staff. Assures staff deliver clea r , understandable discharge i nstruct i ons and follows-up on PCM via sporadic calls to patient s .
Staff Competency, Education, and Performance Evaluation:
Assures all staff receives a formal orientation plan and preceptor . Evaluates effectiveness of the general and clinical orientation. Assures comp l etion of competency based assessment documenta t i on. Systematically and continuously evaluates staff learning needs utilizing competency-based criteria. Assures all staff meets mandatory continuing education requirements, and yearly hospital based competencies .
Leads by example to provide service excellence by communicating i n a cooperative, positive and professional manner. Displays courtesy toward customers by application and role modeling of AIDET. Meets customers' expectation by listening, seeking solutions to potential and actual problems, and demonstrati ng sensitivity and awareness of others. Follows through to ensure that established expectations are satisfied; keep customers informed of progress. Works effectively and cooperatively in groups/teams to ensure quality patient care.
Mainta i ns confidentiality of all c l i nical, financial, employee, information ensuring compl i ance with H I PAA regulations. Attends assigned meetings and demonstrates active participation. Acts as role model and maintain professional demeanor at all times. Develops and maintains clinical competency. Demonstrates professional independence in the practice of nursing. Consults internal experts when appropriate. Maintains documentation of continuing education requirements.
